Wish I knew who to credit for the image!
Pity they didn’t use that line in the show, but much credit to the actor, who really brought Beric alive for me. I had a hard time picturing/connecting with the character in the books.

I have decided while I love Jamie and Brienne, I do not ship them. There is no need for romance between them.
It is enough that Brienne makes Jamie want to be a better man, and that Jamie views Brienne as a valid and true warrior.
Yes. Their relationship is fantastic and multidimensional as it is.To me, when people insist on adding a romantic element to it, they’re implying that the bond those two have just isn’t real or important enough unless they’re shagging. I think that does a disservice not just to the characters, but to the whole idea that male/female platonic friendships are possible, good, and valuable.

Thoros of Myr: One of the rare characters vastly better on TV than they were in the books
Amen. I didn’t connect much with book_Thoros, but I am totally loving Paul Kaye and his messy topknot and his rum and that mix of wry humor and regret and world-weary sadness he projects. A+ acting from Paul.
Brienne’s face just says, “Oh for GOD’S SAKE JAIME HERE NOW STOP FAILING IT’S PISSING ME OFF.”

I feel like this quote is, in essence, Jaime Lannister’s entire character.
He is actually an honorable man, who has covered himself with layers of sarcasm and wit to cover all of his insecurities. He wants to be his father, but as much as he tries, he fails to live up to those standards. He WANTS people to like him, he WANTS to feel honorable. And most of all by his father, who he feels doesn’t really love him, he is constantly trying to win his favor.
And then he sacrifices EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING for those vows and betrays them to protect that very man. Now everyone dishonors his very name, calls him this vile nickname, and he takes it. Because he tells himself: it doesn’t matter. I don’t care what people think about me. Except he does. But because they mean nothing to him, he lets them think what they will. He has Cersei. He has money. He has his name and title.
And then he meets Brienne. This woman who, at first, means absolutely NOTHING to him. A he-she knight who has him in chains; a mockery of what he is. And then he finds that Brienne isn’t just some he-she knight. She is skilled, honorable, and tries to take care of him. She reminds him of his will to live, she watches his back on the road. He starts to trust her.
And then here she is, standing in front of him in the bath, and he has no nasty comments for her because he feels shame for being sarcastic and rude with her, he feels shame for seeing her as less than she is, he feels shame that this woman thinks he is less than he is.
He wants HER to know the truth. He wants HER to know that he kept his vows, that he was protecting his family, that he’s not this terrible ‘Kingslayer.” He tells her, and only her because she matters THAT much to him already.
Jaime Lannister likes to pretend he doesn’t care what people think of him. But he does. He just doesn’t care enough about them to do anything about it. Until Brienne. She was important enough to him for him to care enough to tell her the truth. The real truth.
And THIS is why their relationship is so fucking important.
